Raatmohona is the the story of Saleem, his grandfather and his mother. It begins thirty-two years before his birth, in 1915. As Saleem grows up, he realises that he has the power of telepathy and can decipher others thoughts. Circumstances alienate him from his true patrimony, and he is addled between the philosophies of Hinduism and Islam, none of which he can claim to be his own. His life oscillates between the Republic of India and its antithesis, Pakistan.
